National Domestic Violence Hotline Applauds Biden’s FY 2022 Budget for Support for Survivors

For Immediate Release: June 1, 2021

AUSTIN — Last Friday, President Biden unveiled his budget for the 2022 fiscal year, which includes historic investments in funding for programs and services to support survivors of domestic violence. This landmark funding request will help organizations provide survivor-centered services, like the National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline), shelters, and supportive resources.

We are deeply grateful for the unprecedented proposal of $26 million dollars for The Hotline, which will help expand our capacity to ensure when a survivor reaches out, they have an advocate on the line to support them. In addition, the proposal of $463 million dollars for the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act will greatly increase the availability of services around the country for survivors.

“We understand how important it is for survivors to access safety on their own terms. With these important investments, we know that services like The Hotline can continue to support survivors on their journey to safety,” said Katie Ray-Jones, CEO of The Hotline. “We appreciate the budget recognizes the far reaching impact that domestic violence has on society that permeates the many systems — from housing vouchers to paid leave — that a survivor interacts with. The Hotline looks forward to working with Congress on ensuring passage of this critical funding for survivors and support services.”
