Pets & DV
Looking for a safe haven for you and your pet? Click on the map below for the Safe Havens Mapping Project – a database of sheltering services available for victims of domestic violence and their companion animals. Safe havens differ from community to community – some rely on networks of foster care homes or are allowed to use the extra kennel space of a local humane society or veterinarian, some domestic violence shelters house victims and pets together, and some facilities provide pet-only housing. Be sure to contact listings within Safe Havens Mapping Project to ask about your specific needs. If there’s no listing for your area, call a local animal shelter and ask about temporary assistance for pets in domestic violence situations.
