The Hotline answered its 8 millionth contact on July 29, 2026 at 11:43 a.m. CT. While this historic contact reflects the ongoing need for domestic violence support services, it also represents eight million moments of hope for survivors — each one reflecting the courage it takes to reach out for safety, resources, validation or simply someone to listen. The contact was a call from a woman in Arizona seeking help leaving an abusive relationship with a financial barrier to services.

Our incredible advocates have been a lifeline for people affected by relationship abuse and we honor their dedication and service to the mission to answer the call and support and shift power back. A special thank you as well to our staff for their vital work in our efforts to end the cycle of abuse.

From our first call 30 years ago to today, our incredible advocates have responded to more than 8 million people seeking support and a pathway to safety. While there is so much work left to address and end domestic violence, especially as we see increases in technology-facilitated abuse, I am honored to be leading our team at The Hotline, working tirelessly to ensure we are available every second of every day.

— Katie Ray-Jones, The Hotline’s CEO

It took seven years for The Hotline to reach its first 1 million contacts in 2003. And it took just two years to grow from 7 million contacts in 2024 to 8 million in 2026 — highlighting the growing demand for survivor-centered services. Through these conversations, The Hotline has adapted alongside the evolving landscape of domestic violence, providing care by phone, chat and text to people experiencing all forms of harm, including technology-facilitated abuse.
