Vital Link 2007
The 2007 Vital Links Award was presented to Liz Claiborne, Inc., by the National Domestic Violence Hotline, at its annual award ceremony held on November 14, 2007, in New York City at the W Hotel Union Square.
Liz Claiborne, Inc. was recognized for its leadership, historical support and its founding partnership for loveisrespect.org, National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline, which provides teens with access to resources and information 24 hours a day. “Love Is Not Abuse”, a phrase made famous by Liz Claiborne, is a multi-faceted program (www.loveisnotabuse.com) that has sought to equip every American with effective tools and useful information in a national campaign to prevent and eliminate domestic abuse. Liz Claiborne, Inc. has been engaged in the domestic violence awareness effort since 1991 and has strongly supported prevention, victim services and workplace awareness through partnerships with domestic violence agencies, consumer education, and workplace education.
Other important partners recognized at the event included REDBOOK and Ms. Robin Givens. REDBOOK was presented with the Media for Change Award, for providing responsible, compelling coverage of domestic violence in a way that educates and empowers individuals who seek solutions to domestic violence. REDBOOK’s 2006 feature article, “You Can Save a Woman’s Life Just by Asking Her How She’s Doing”, helped readers understand the dynamics and prevalence of domestic violence and encouraged them to become involved in assisting friends, family and co-workers in violent relationships. The Voices for Change Award was presented to actress and author, Ms. Robin Givens, who made the courageous decision to tell her own personal, compelling story in her new book, Grace Will Lead Me Home. In her book, Ms. Givens recounts her volatile marriage to Mike Tyson, the legacy of life-threatening domestic violence that has haunted her family for three generations and how she managed to survive and thrive.

Mr. William L. McComb, CEO, and Ms. Jane Randel, Vice President, Corporate Communications, accepted the award on behalf of Liz Claiborne, Inc., which was presented by Ms. Sheryl Cates, CEO, National Domestic Violence Hotline. Mr. Maury Lane, Corporate Communications Strategist, FedEx, made the presentation to Ms. Stacy Morrison, Editor-in-Chief, REDBOOK. Ms. Givens was offered her award by Ms. Rose Kirk, Vice President, Verizon. Mr. Tim Gunn, Chief Creative Officer for Liz Claiborne, Inc., served as the emcee.
