SUMMARY:
Hotline Volunteer Advocates answer calls for the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
If you’re ready to take the call and make a difference for America’s families, women and men who are experiencing abuse, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is just the place for you to get involved!
Hotline Volunteer Advocates are trained to offer support, guidance and resources to victims and survivors of domestic violence, as well as their concerned parents, friends and loved ones.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Hotline Volunteer Advocates:
Must be 18 years of age or older; have an ability to listen well and compassionately; friendly, flexible personality; and must be able to work within the agency’s guiding principles to empower callers.
REQUIREMENTS:
Hotline Volunteer Advocates:
- Must be in Austin, Texas
- Provide their own transportation
- Attend a Question & Answer meeting and tour
- Submit to a criminal background check and application process with at least three personal, educational and professional references
- Attend the National Domestic Violence Hotline volunteer advocate 40 hour training
- Complete and pass a post training exam
- Demonstrate adequate skills in crisis intervention
- Must participate in six hours of monitoring live Hotline calls, role playing exercises and on-going training
- Commit to 2-4 hours per week (eight hours per month minimum)
- Attend in-service trainings and continuing education during their tenure
