  1. Domestic Violence can happened to anyone. I am a domestic violence survivor and the Courts, CPS, Guardian Ad Litem help my child and myself to be taken advantage of. there are many factors that go into each case my wife mental health which is still a problem was that primary cause. I never hit pushed, yelled or anything that would have forced her to attach me with weapons. I am now a Advocate and Clinical Social Worker. I help both male and female to restore some sense of peace of possible. Sometimes its not. that is the truth.

    1. Hi Blake,

Thank you so much for being a part of our online community! I’m so sorry to hear that there were issues when working through the system in your case, and it is so admirable that you are working to support other survivors now! No one deserves to experience abuse, and it sounds like you endured so much in your relationship and when trying to move on from it. We believe that abuse is a choice. Mental Illness does not excuse a person’s abusive and unhealthy behavior toward their partner. The pain from experiencing that can certainly take time and care to work through. Working toward peace and healing from abuse is a process, and it’s a path that every survivor deserves support on. Everyone deserves to feel safe and happy.

If you would like to talk through what you experienced further, or if you have any other questions or concerns, our advocates would be more than happy to talk with you. We are here 24/7 by phone at 1-800-799-7233 or from 7am-2am CST through our chat in the top right corner at http://www.thehotline.org/.

      Take care!
      Advocate GR
