Camille Winbush
Camille Winbush is a three-time NAACP Image Award winning actress who began her acting career at the tender age of two, when a talent scout signed her on the spot after hearing her spirited rendition of “Que Sera, Sera.” She has been working ever since.
Winbush received national recognition for her portrayal of “Vanessa,” the brassy teenager with a big heart, in the award-winning television series “The Bernie Mac Show,” which ran for five years. For her role on the show, Winbush received NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the consecutive years of 2005, 2004 and 2003.
Winbush currently enjoys a recurring role on the ABC Family television series “The Secret Life of An American Teenager” now in its third season. She also guest starred on the hit television drama “Grey’s Anatomy” as a terminally ill cancer patient coming to terms with her illness. Other television credits include “Criminal Minds,” “Strong Medicine,” as well as roles on “ER,” “That’s Life,” the critically acclaimed Lifetime Television series “Any Day Now,” “The Norm Show,” “Hanging with Mr. Cooper,” “Viper,” “Minor Adjustments,” and “7th Heaven.”
Winbush’s early film credits include a starring role in the critically-acclaimed film “Ghost Dog” opposite Oscar-winner Forrest Whitaker, as well as roles in “Eraser” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and “Dangerous Minds” with Michelle Pfeiffer. She lent her vocals to the Disney soundtrack of “Geppetto” and was featured on Universal Record’s celebrity holiday CD “Wild Christmas” singing the classic tune, “The Night Before Christmas.”
Also an entrepreneur, Winbush fulfilled a dream in 2003 by opening her own ice cream parlor, Baked Ice, in Southern California’s historic Old Town Pasadena. She has received numerous business awards and citations for her entrepreneurial endeavors including the TeenPreneur Award from Black Enterprise Magazine which recognized Winbush for outstanding business leadership and achievement among her peer group.
As a spokesperson for teen literacy, Winbush continues to appear at events around the country to encourage young people to read.
